My name is Julie Blunden, I am a carer for my husband, Ray, who was diagnosed with mixed dementia (vascular and Alzheimer's) in 2019. In the years since then, his dementia has progressed through the usual stages, reaching the late-dementia stage we are now at. Along the way, we have passed many difficult milestones but we've adapted and we still make each other smile.
Being a carer can be both challenging and isolating. It often feels like the outside world carries on, without us. Seeking to offset this a little, I started to look around for local, online groups to interact with but found nothing that quite fitted the bill. I realised too, that there seemed to be little out there, in the way of information sharing and engaging with others, on current, common issues that affect us all.
Being a dementia-carer has its own unique complexities too. So, I started this page, as a means of reaching out and connecting with dementia carers locally (Sutton/Surrey). My hope is that this will become a localised dementia platform, collating current issues, support options, personal experiences and posting information and updates, pertinent to dementia and our carer-roles.
